Didim - Altinkum
The resorts of Altinkum has a series of sandy beaches and is particularly popular with British holidaymakers. The town has over 8,000 foreign owners , mostly British and a rapidly growing expatriate community. The seafront is lined with restaurants and bars , and in summer there are water sports and leisure activities on the beach, which is ideal for children. Didyma’s famous Temple of Apollo is in the town and ancient Greek Miletus and Priene are close by. A-625-berth marina is due completion in 2009.
Altinkum is a 90 -minute drive from Bodrum airport. There is a new public hospital , with larger private hospitals in Bodrum and Kusadasi. Shopping facilities are good with several large supermarkets and a weekly market for produce. The town has a wide choice of property with some of the lowest prices on the Turkish coast. Apartments are most common with prices starting from 25,000 Sterlin for a basic two-bedroom flat, located a long way from the beach. However , well-constructed two-bedroom apartments , 5-10 minutes walk from the main beach, cost 40,000 – 50,000 or 50,000 – 75,000 for a three or four bedroom duplex. Apartments at this price level are a much better investment than cheaper property , and complexes should have a decent size pool and other facilities. Away from the center there are more villa developments , with areas like Camlik and Aytepe offering quieter surroundings a short minibus ride from the main beach and shopping. Detached three-bedroom villas cost 90,000-120,000 ; large four-bedroom villas with garden 120,000 – 150,000 .The infrastructure has struggled to keep pace with development in parts of Altınkum ,Some access roads are unsurfaced and become muddy or even impassable during the winter. There are drainage problems in low-lying areas. The on-going building boom has created a large supply property, so choosing somewhere with good facilities, located near the beach , is important. The small resort of Akbuk , 10 km south of Altinkum , is popular with buyers wanting more peaceful surroundings, though facilities are limited , particularly in winter when many businesses close down and most houses are empty.
