Sitting on the scenic Resadiye Peninsular, Datca is a small coastal town built around a pretty harbour . Bad road access from Marmaris , 75 km east, gave it a feeling of isolation and slowed development until fairly recently. The road has now been improved but the distance from Dalaman airport , with transfer times of 2.5 hours , puts many would-be foreign tourist and property buyers off. By contrast, the area is a popular holiday for Turkish families, many of whom own second homes in the area. Indeed, the local population quadruples in summer , to about 45,000. Datca’s harbour is a popular port-of-call for yachts, with the tiny, picturesque Greek island of Simi a short cruise off-shore. Sveral local beaches have been given the coveted Blue Flag award. Beyond the town, the scenery is unspoilt with almond orchards and olive groves descending to quiet coves. The site of the ancient city of Knidos, famous in antiquity for its statue of Aphrodite, sits at the very tip of the Resadiye peninsular and is a popular day-trip.There is a car-ferry several times a week from Bodrum in summer. Local shops stock all the essentials and there is a large supermarket. Mos of the area’s older properties have been built for the Turkish market and generally need renovating, though prices are very low. In the last couple of years much higher quality apartments and villas have also been built. Datca , bodrum ,marmaris, turkey travel , turkey , travel, knidos, dalaman, dalaman airport, Turkish, summer, villas, property, peninsular,Aphrodite.
