The coast south of Ayvalik
The coast road south from Ayvalik takes you near a number of undeveloped resort towns, although the best stretch of sandy beach is en route, beginning just south of Altinova and continuing for about 15km to Dikili. It is, however, only really accessible if you have your own transport, and in any case has very few facilities.
Dikili and around
DiKili is a sizable resort with a population of about 10,000, which offers a decent beach and a promenade lined with cafes and restaurants. Otherwise though, there’s lit¬tle of interest unless you arrive in early autumn when local farmers descend on the town with their harvests of raw cotton to sell to wholesalers. Cruise liners occasionally dock in the harbour, allowing their passengers to make day excursions to Bergama and Ayvahk, or head for the beaches to the north.
