Cave churches and fairy chimneys
– In the background of Anatolia

Cappadocia, translated “the land of beautiful horses”, is the old name for the triangle area between Kayseri, Ürgüp and Nigde in the north-east of Turkey in the heart of Anatolia. This is the land of the underground cities, the fairy chimneys, cave dwellings and churches, but also the vineyards, apricots, almonds and olives.

At first glance reminds Cappadocia in a landscape from “1000 and One Nights”. The almost surreal looking tuff region lit at dusk in a variety of pastel colors: pink, yellow, blue, light gray or white are canyons, spires, pyramids, fireplaces, cone and strange rock forms on the horizon. It really only missing gnomes and fairies to a perfect fairy-tale landscape.

Brodelnde volcanoes were here before Early active überschütteten the region with masses of lava and ash.
